As one of the key reasons while the University of Regina was able to continue to compete in the Great Plains Athletic Conference in the late 70s and early 80s, Jim Ayre was among the first crop of inductees to the University of Regina’s Sports Hall of Fame. Ayre was a consistent supporter of University of Regina athletics over his tenure. He served as the school’s budget officer from 1968 through 1980 and formulated an athletics budget that kept U of R teams at an intercollegiate level. Ayre received a Distinguished Service award from the University of Regina’s Board of Governors in 1983.
