Jason Clermont was a critical part of the University of Regina's meteoric introduction to CIS football. He helped the team to a Canada West championship and a Vanier Cup appearance in 2000, just the Rams' second season at the university level. Clermont was a two-time All-Canadian, earned conference all-star selections in all three of his Canada West seasons, and finished off his career by earning the Frank Gnup Memorial Trophy as the Canada West Player of the Year in 2001. Despite playing only three seasons, Clermont is one of a select few players in U of R history to have collected 2000 career receiving yards. He finished with 115 catches for 2169 yards and 19 touchdowns with the Rams and scored 26 touchdowns overall, a mark which would stand as the school's all-time record for over 15 years.
After his stellar U of R career, Clermont was a first-round draft pick of the B.C. Lions and enjoyed a 10-season Canadian Football League career which included a Grey Cup championship in 2006 with the Lions. He was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie in 2002, earned Most Outstanding Canadian honours in both 2004 and 2007, and was named the Most Valuable Canadian at the 2004 Grey Cup. Clermont was a CFL all-star in 2007 and a West Division all-star in both 2004 and 2007.
